An End... ALMOST!!

I made a base using duplicated models of the trooper to look like fallen comrades, and then the ammo from his ammo clips to look like the empty rounds on the floor. I was going to have him dropping a couple of small pistols but then thought a mini gun would look cooler. So modelled a mini-gun so he could be holding that instead and look even more badass. Next I have to texture the base and the weapons but it's now almost finished.

Rendered Textures

Here aaaaare the almost finished textures, rendered out just using maya. Later i'll export the model into either marmoset or UE4. I also have the normal maps on to make it look more scarred and burnt.

Blast wound

The top image shows how the texture for his blast wound started, I tried to make it look like scorched metal with the blue flare around the edge and then realised that it looked silly. So stopped. And tried something else. I also had to re model the bag straps to look like they'd exploded outwards. Looking back I should have done that first and then textured it. But it's done now..so oh well...

A texture start...

After finally finishing the models...and the UV-ing, I could finally start texturing.

Almost finished...

Here we see the lesser spotted almost finished modelled stormtrooper... This was most of the model finished. From here I then went and finished tidying various bits and pieces. These also highlight how i used the unreal man to gauge size and also his robot leg that was a last minute addition.

A start

These 3 show the model already part made, I spent a few weeks focusing on the helmet just to make sure that it was the right size compared to the rest of the body. From there I started to model the rest of the body using cylinders and spheres. I also used the Unreal man to get the proportions rights, so the arms or legs weren't too long etc.

Last Man Standing

A few sketches I had done in my free time using a biro had looked more at the animated asthetic, the thin arms and drawn out face and was a style that I quite liked. So I tried to use it again, this image takes place after my diorama, to show how hard my character really is, after being shot and blown up, he's still standing. Just.

Allll the soldiers

This, again, was just a quick sketch to show what he does when he's not fighting, but also to show he's in charge of a small squad. This is supposed to take place before the set piece of my diorama by a few hours. He and his troops are unaware of the attack. It also highlights the desert setting that he's been set to patrol.

PUNCH

I used 'pose-maniacs' for this image to try and get him in an action pose, just to change things up from the front. back, side images. Also to explore the type of person that he his, to show that he doesn't just use guns and isn't afraid to get up close and fight. I prefer the outline sketch, rather than the sort-of-finished image with colours as the armour doesn't look right. Something I know i have to work on as in a few other images I've struggled with what the armour looks like from different perspectives.

Facccccces

Even though the trooper is wearing a helmet, I wanted to look into what he would look like under the helmet. I started with the face itself, young? Old? weathered and worried? And from there, started to design a few emotions for him. Again, I didn't focus on these too much as I wasn't modelling the characters face, just the helmet.

Evolution

These were just a couple of designs for the uniform my trooper would have had whilst progressing through his different ranks. All have echoes of the previous uniform and also from stormtroopers. It was just to establish an evolution of the character and show how he had started.
